Accomodation

International students have a variety of options for accommodation while studying in Turkey. They can live in university dormitories on campus, in government dormitories managed by KYK (Higher Education Credit and Hostels Institution) located in various places in the city, in private dormitories, or in the apartments they rent in the city.

Dormitories

Almost all government dormitories and university hostels in Turkey are segregated for male and female students. Although the number of students housed in the rooms is variable, prices may increase or decrease depending on the number of people housed in the room.

Students have all the furniture they need in the rooms and common areas. Residence halls have wired or wireless internet access available to all students. Some residence halls have their own cafeteria where breakfast and dinner are usually served. Common areas such as the room TV, a study room and a kitchen are also available to students.

Monthly fees for KYK-operated dorms range from 215 TL to 340 TL for 2020, and dorm fees vary depending on the college and the nature of the room in which one is housed. For the most reliable and up-to-date information on this topic, please visit the university”s website.

There are private dormitories near most universities. The facilities of the private dormitories are usually better than those of the state dormitories (e.g. newer and more varied furniture), but the fees are higher.

Renting a house

Many international students prefer renting a house. Especially in neighbourhoods close to the university, many students rent a house with a few friends. There are many options for renting a house in Turkey, and the number and quality of homes is developing rapidly. Of course, prices vary from city to city and depending on the location and condition of the house. However, whatever your budget, you can be sure that you will find a suitable house in the city you go to.

Houses in Turkey are usually in the form of a flat. These flats have a large living room and 2 to 4 additional bedrooms. Most houses have a balcony. The kitchen is located in a separate part of the house. The houses are heated by a central system or a combi boiler. Based on the average rental prices per square meter in some provinces in 2020, the average rental price for a 90 square meters house can be between 600 TL and 2,500 TL.

Remember. After you have signed a rental contract with your landlord, various tasks such as buying household goods and subscriptions await you.
